4.Corcovado National Park: Located in the province of Puntarenas, it corresponds to one of the most important conservation areas in the country, where such diverse habitats meet, such as the mountain forest, the cloud forest, the swampy forest, mangroves and vegetation of the coast. 5.Chirripó National Park: Hidden in the province of Limón, with 50,849 hectares, where landscapes of mountain moorland, cloud forests and wet forests coincide. Among the main attractions of the park, there is the Chirripó hill, part of the Talamanca mountain range and the highest summit in Costa Rica, reaching 3,820 meters above sea level. On a clear day, the park great heights allow stunning panoramic views of both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
6.Irazú Volcano National Park: The Irazú Volcano National Park, in the province of Cartago, corresponds to a conservation area of 2,309 hectares around the Irazú volcano, which with 3,432 meters above sea level is the highest volcano in Costa Rica. Due to the constant eruptions of ash and the acidity of the land, the predominant vegetation is of wasteland and scarce wildlife.
The extraordinary scenic beauty of the main crater of the volcano and the surrounding ash area is the main attraction of the park, resembling a lunar landscape. Also on a clear day, you get splendid views of the other craters of the volcano, and if you are lucky in the Pacific, the Caribbean and much of the territory of the country.
7.Marino Ballena National Park: Located on the Pacific coast of the province of Puntarenas, it corresponds to a national park of 5,845 hectares, of which 5,375, are entirely marine areas. The other conservation areas include beaches of special beauty, cliffs, islands and reefs.
Its fame comes from being one of the best national parks in Costa Rica, for the sighting of large marine mammals, receiving the visit of the spotted dolphin, the bottlenose dolphin and humpback whales. The latter arrive both from the northern hemisphere (December to April), and from the southern hemisphere (July to October) to reproduce and give birth to the young.
8.Arenal Volcano National Park: The Arenal Volcano National Park, is located in the province of Guanacaste, covering 12,124 hectares, where rain forests and volcanic scenarios predominate, with the imposing view of the Arenal Volcano, as a backdrop. They stand out among its tourist attractions, sulphurous thermal waters of amazing shades of intense blue and green, and its extensive lake under the Arenal Volcano, ideal for water sports such as kayaking and jet sky.
9.Rincon de la Vieja National Park: Between the provinces of Guanacaste and Alajuela, there is this amazing park of 14,161 hectares, which protects part of the Guanacaste Conservation Area, an area declared World Heritage by Unesco, given the importance of its natural habitats, among which the largest and only sample of dry forest that is found from Mexico to Panama stands out.
The main tourist attraction of the park, lies in the exotic beauty of its landscapes, which combine volcanic scenarios, with fumaroles, mud pools and steam emanations, next to large areas of forest, where dozens of rivers and waterfalls converge.
10.Tortuguero National Park: Finalizing the list of the best national parks in Costa Rica, is the Tortuguero National Park in the province of Limón, with 83,187 hectares, where very humid tropical forests, numerous lagoons and navigable channels predominate. Other natural scenarios present in the Tortuguero, correspond to the swamps and Caribbean beaches. This park is especially famous for being one of the most important sites in the Costa Rican Caribbean for the nesting of sea turtles, such as the leatherback turtle, the green turtle and the
hawksbill turtle, among others. It is also home to large populations of monkeys, tapirs, iguanas, jaguars, crocodiles, manatees, pumas and several other animal species.
