San Gerardo de Dota is the paradise of quetzals

San Gerardo de Dota is located  at the edge of the Central Valley  which is one of the most beautiful regions of Costa Rica. It is a picturesque city, with an impressive habitat of flora and fauna  and is known as paradise for nature lovers. There lives the resplendent Quetzal, which is the most famous bird in the country.  The quetzal, can be seen between April and May, at its  reproduction.

The area offers walks to the waterfalls of the Savegre river, with its crystal clear clean  water . Swimming is not allowed since it can be dangerous.

The city offers fresh mountain air lush cloud forest and best points for bird watching

The city is also known as the “Shangri-la” of Talamanca mauntains, where can be found  incredible fruit trees like  peach, plum and apple, as well as orchids, from which derives the Guaria Morada, the national flower.

National Park Los Quetzales.

It is the most recent National Park of Costa Rica, designated to promote eco tourism and neutralize discharge of carbon to the atmosphere. The Park is part of the Pacific Central Area’s Conservation and it protects the basin of the rio Savegre and gives shelter to the beautiful quetzal including nesting.

Outside the Park you can enjoy various activities such as:
